Waxing poetic

This is my favorite Far Side cartoon. I find that it epitomizes the times when we are humbled by our own brilliance and/or stupidity. For this entire break I have been mocked by about 180 China Unit notebooks that need to be graded. But I was amused by the many thoughtful gifts and cards from my students. As the advisor for NJHS (National Junior Honor Society), I deal with the academic elite. I have this one student, christ (his name is Christopher, but he spelled his name wrong and though he's smarter than me, he's not better than Christ, hence the lowercase spelling), but I digress...christ loves to stop by afterschool to talk about everything under the stars and he saw all of the notebooks that I was going to bring home to grade. He knows how much I abhor grading because I don't make it a secret...and he looks at me and in all seriousness says, "Ms. Cabiness, did it ever occur to you that if you gave less homework that you would have less to grade?" Uh, yeah...

As 2005 comes to a close, I just wanted to let you all know that I am truly lucky to have such a great group of friends. I know of no other people who still keep in touch with a large number of friends from elementary, junior high, high school, and even college. It's unusual, but I know it's only because we are the U-men and that's a bond that can't be broken unless you're married to Sonya...(sorry, I couldn't help myself). But I wish you all the very best in 2006...and I'll be there at the half yearly party or whatever we're calling it...be safe for NYE and stay away from South County restaurants because the OC restaurant bandit is still on the loose. I love you all!

If you don't know

www.fark.com is among the best sites on the Net. They beat major sources to news and the photoshop contests are high-larious.

See you in Hell,

C

And Another Thing

Since people are posting their favorite internet schtuff - here is a favorite of mine. I particularly think that Kelly Lutes will appreciate it, assuming she hasn't already seen it.

Beer, glorious beer

I was just looking at some of my catalogued photos online. It made me want to be in Dublin, drinking Guiness. Here's hoping our Amsterdam trip works out as planned. Nudge, nudge.

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Ours was filled with family, food, wine, and a board game called "Fact or Crap." It was fun playing a trivia game with a 9 year old. Ok, not fun, but funny.

See you all in 06!!!!

Administrator Information

Grant driving this summer. He never wears pants when he drives a Volkswagon.

Everyone who has registered has been changed to an admin. That means that you can all edit everything on this blog including the template. That is how I added Grant's porn site link to Christina Aguilera pictures and Corey's joke NAMbLA site (only a WIKIPEDIA entry). To do this, click TEMPLATE, then scroll down the HTML and make adjustments. The links are at the very end of the code. If you want me to add or delete a link for you just send me an email or post a blog entry and I will make the change.

Just don't CHANGE the template to a different one, because then all changes I have made and links will be deleted. For example, I deleted my profile from the sidebar, because this is OUR blog. Also, I created all the links and added them to the template.

To change any SETTINGS yourself, once you are in the edit screen, click on SETTINGS and go wild. There really isn't all that much you can do that is different from being a normal member except the SETTINGS and TEMPLATE screen. I have changed all the settings so that our blog is not advertised or published in any way. Only members (us) can post or comment. You can go to the members section and invite other members. Grant's Kelly should be invited to join as well as Catherine's Bret (I don't have their emails), but otherwise anyone who is anyone has been invited. Admins can invite anyone themselves. Dave Lutes has joined, but has not posted, Kelly Lutes, Suzy Taylor, Judy Ma, and David Whitman have not yet responded. As soon as they respond they will be granted full "TEAM" privileges and can then be manually upgraded to administrators themselves.

What's the easiest way to post new blog entries? I click on the pencil and then click on CREATE. Is there another way?

End of Year Bliss

Since we're all waxing philosophical, I thought I'd join in. 2005 was a great year for me. Highlights include my trip to France to watch Lance Armstrong win Le Tour yet again, a loaded week in New York (my newly adopted home away from home), catching the perfect wave this past summer while surfing in Malibu, exercising my creative side by playing Lennie in Of Mice and Men, and getting promoted to Executive Director at Disney. I also spent more time with friends and family this year which I've neglected to do for too long. There were a couple of flings that I'll smile about on my death bed, some good books read (even one about L BJ), a few bottles of exquisite wine consumed, and one meal in particular that I didn't want to end. I am a very lucky man indeed.

Here's to 2006!!!

My Latest Thang

You're the Man Now Dogs, or YTMNDs.

Here is the Original.

Go to YTMND.com for more info.

Also, for the backstory, check out the Wikipedia entry.

Here is my current favorite.

Pa3ul "Smokey" Edds

I did some investigatin'.

No record of home ownership in Anaheim. His parents still live in the same house as when we were in HS.

It appears that Paul is umpiring women's softball quite a bit. He officiated last year's college world series.

Here is the link to a photo.

A Thought

I know that we are all very busy all of the time. However, would you all be willing to make an effort add another annual get-together to our calendars?

I am thinking something like a U-Men Midsummer Night's Dream BBQ or a Hot August U-Men Night's BBQ?

We would be pleased to host it this year at our crib (you may have seen it on The Fabulous Life of Yo! MTV Cribs World's Best Week Evar).

Nothing fancy, just another pot-lick with enough advanced notice that we all can attend.

Thoughts?

Memory Lane

So, every Wednesday evening, I go down to Huntington Beach for an accupuncture appointment. The interesting thing (aside from the fact that I'm going to an accupuncture appointment), is that to get there I have to travel down roads I (we) travelled frequently in my (our) younger days. I usually take a slightly different route each time, which is one of my weirder habits. Anyway, I quite often travel down Magnolia and Newland to get down to the beach. In the course of my travels, I have been past most of our former homes, Savanna, the establishment formerly known as Bullwinkles, Brookhurst Jr. High (go Spartans), to name just a few. So many memories wash over me, it's hard to describe. Some are good, some bad, some funny. There are donut shops, the Linbrook bowl, places where I've done good and incredibly embarrassing things. Many parts of those neighborhoods are pretty sad looking these days too. Tonight, I went all the way down to the beach to see if I could see and hear some of the heavy surf. (It was apparently as big as 15' earlier today. So that's my blog entry. That's what I've been doing.

Piece-out,
Mark

Very Cool

I cannot figure out how to add a link to my blog - Blogger will not let me access the settings page.

Anywho, the link is above. Nothing exciting, just some San Clemente law use law geek stuff.

Holiday Greetings

Even though mark and I saw you all at the party, I send you our warmest holiday wishes for much love and laughter in the coming year. We, once again, have failed miserably in our attempt to get cards out. It could still happen.... who knows... but for now, this little post will let you all know that we love you very much and feel blessed to have you in our lives.

Kathleen

This is great

Thanks to Dave for the idea and Mark for setting this up.

Blog On You Crazy Diamonds

I took Dave's idea and decided to run with it. (Great idea by the way!) This is what is known as a team blog. That means that everyone who joins will have the ablility to create their own entries. We can also add comments to other entries if we likey. I hope this is to everyone's liking. We can also add pictures in the posts, which I will try to do in just a minute or two.

Now, if you want to add a link to your own external website or blog, then just add your own link. Once you become an administrator, you will be able to do this by editing the template. Ask me later and I can help.

Please give me the email address for Dave Whitman, and anyone else you would like invited to the team.

It was great seeing everyone the other night.

Mark
