Waxing poetic

This is my favorite Far Side cartoon. I find that it epitomizes the times when we are humbled by our own brilliance and/or stupidity. For this entire break I have been mocked by about 180 China Unit notebooks that need to be graded. But I was amused by the many thoughtful gifts and cards from my students. As the advisor for NJHS (National Junior Honor Society), I deal with the academic elite. I have this one student, christ (his name is Christopher, but he spelled his name wrong and though he's smarter than me, he's not better than Christ, hence the lowercase spelling), but I digress...christ loves to stop by afterschool to talk about everything under the stars and he saw all of the notebooks that I was going to bring home to grade. He knows how much I abhor grading because I don't make it a secret...and he looks at me and in all seriousness says, "Ms. Cabiness, did it ever occur to you that if you gave less homework that you would have less to grade?" Uh, yeah...

As 2005 comes to a close, I just wanted to let you all know that I am truly lucky to have such a great group of friends. I know of no other people who still keep in touch with a large number of friends from elementary, junior high, high school, and even college. It's unusual, but I know it's only because we are the U-men and that's a bond that can't be broken unless you're married to Sonya...(sorry, I couldn't help myself). But I wish you all the very best in 2006...and I'll be there at the half yearly party or whatever we're calling it...be safe for NYE and stay away from South County restaurants because the OC restaurant bandit is still on the loose. I love you all!
