I'm Joining the 21st Century...

Well, I finally did it! I plopped down my cash for a fancy new computer. I am the proud owner of a MacBook Pro. It has too many bells and whistles, but I love the bigger screen (I was using an iBook). I'm stumbling through Office:mac, but I'll get the hang of it soon enough. The "genius" at the Apple Store was trying to sell me on the computer by telling me that it can create movies, videos...apparently the look of confusion did nothing because he then starting droning on and on about gigabyte, megabyte, RAM...yeah, I was confused. In fact, at one point, I simply said, "Yeah, that makes no sense to me." I'm sure my brother was dying of laughter inside. I'm so clueless when it comes to technology. But I'm loving the new computer! It's faster, prettier, and the keyboard lights up when I cover the speakers (don't ask). The only major bummer is the fact that because it's titanium, the bottom gets really, really, REALLY hot, so essentially, you can't "use" this as a laptop since it will burn your lap.

Now if I could only figure out how to transfer the information from my iBook to my MacBook Pro, I'll be set. :)

Macs have by far the lowest cost of ownership of any computer manufacturer - about half to two-thirds that of most PC's. The costs are returned to the user in less downtime, fewer repairs, fewer individual things to get and pieces of software to buy (more is included with the computer and the operating system.) No viruses. No spyware. I am more creative and more productive because of my mac. I spent hours and hours trying to maintain Kathleen's old Dell-shitty-ass-laptop before I finally bought her an iBook ($1200.00) last Fall. I update stuff for her or help her connect to a new device every once in awhile, but it generally ALWAYS WORKS. I have had my $2200 Powerbook for 2 1/2 years now and it works as well as the day I bought it. I have produced 4 film festivals for my school, 3 with that laptop. I run powerpoint lectures from my laptop at work every time I lecture. I have at least 6 or 7 students of mine who buy mac every year because of what they see I am able to do. I am a mac evangelist. So there.

I was terrified to switch to mac because of the difference in simple word commands that I thought would take forever to learn. However, I LOVE my Mac. I take sound cues for my show and put them into the garage band program to mix them, the vocal music teacher plugs his keyboard into my computer and we record songs for kids, I had my kids make movies this year on my mac... it has been AWESOME. I now run all the sound for my shows through my Mac. I am a disciple of Mark the Mac Evangelist.

Simply put, Macs are for fags.

    Kidding!

i've never heard anything negative about them except that gamers don't like them due to a lack of software.

I have thought about getting one for a few years myself, primarily because they are so much better for porn. . .er. . . video editing. I have held off because I am waiting for seamless integration with Windows-based programs so that I don't lose the ability to enjoy any of my porn . . er. . . files.

The MacBook Pro has the intel chip so your "videos" would be in real-time. Apparently one can have duo platforms (I don't know what that means, but I think it has something to do with operating on both Mac and PC operating systems). But I am NOT an expert. I just enjoy Macs.

In fact, today in my classroom, I was delivered a brand new eMac for me. It's like Christmas and my birthday all rolled in one. :)

As for the cost...it was $2400 out the door with an HP 3210 printer, Word for Mac software, Apple Care Protection Plan...minus $410 dollars in educator discounts. Sweet deal, I know. :)
